(At CD's Bar & Grill)

CD, Alex, and Trivette are decorating the place of Walker's surprise party. CD stops Alex and Trivette for a moment to look at what he'd gotten Walker.

CD: (talking to two of his waitresses) We gotta get this birthday party together, so listen girls. Cordell's gonna be here in a couple of hours and we really want to spring a surprise on him. Now let's put these things all over and let's give this place a look of, ah, kind of a bouncy look. A gayety look, if you know what I mean. (turns to another girl) Julie, honey, don't stretch that straight. Give it a little.

Julie: Ok

CD: Like this. Yeah, well. Alex, honey, I gotta show you something, please. Jimmy, come on I've gotta birthday present for Cordell. I want you to see this. (sitting at the bar opening a book) Yesiree, this is about Hayes Cooper. The early years. This guy use to be a bounty hunter, before he was a ranger…I didn't know that. Anyway, I'll um; I'll read you a little somethin' here. (CD opens the book and begins to narrate as the story is shown) Summer had just taken hold, in the mountains of Utah when Hayes Cooper picked up the trail of Jake Raines and followed it to where the murderer and bank robber was camped with a couple of his boys, high in the Wasache.

Trivette: Wasach.

CD: Wasach. Ok, ok. You want me to continue? I mean I…

Trivette and Alex: Go ahead.

CD: Alright, alright. And in trying to decide how to capture this trio of desperados. (fade into the 1800's time of Cooper). Cooper decided that the direct approach, would be best. So he just rode right into the camp.

(1800’s: In the Mountains of Utah)

Hayes Cooper (who looks suspiciously like Walker): Hello in there.

Jake Raines: Easy.

Cooper: Hey boys, how ya doin'?

Raines: And who might you be mister?

Cooper: Just someone dying for a cup of coffee. (exhausted) It's been a long ride.

Raines: Drink your coffee then move on.

Cooper: Now that's not being neighborly. But (pulling out Raines' wanted poster) I can understand why you feel that way.

Raines: You're a dead man mister.

Cooper: Now that definitely ain't neighborly.

Raines: Take 'im boys. (Raines and his men attack Cooper, but Cooper defeats them)

Raines: (groaning and coughing) Ahh. Ohhh. You're dead! You're dead.

Cooper: (sipping his coffee) Shut up.

(Present day: Back to CD's)

CD: And that's just page one.

Alex: What are you waiting for? Read on.

Trivette: Yeah, come on, don't stop.

CD: Ok. (fade back to Utah) Two days later Hayes arrived at Indian Mountain. Pre-arranged meeting place for Marshal Kline Dole and his deputy, Edward Hoskins, were waiting.

(1800’s: In the Utah Mountains)

Edward Hoskins: (fixing his horse's saddle) Damn, nation. He brung them in just exactly where and when he said he was gonna bring them in. That's unbelievable luck.

Marshal Kline Dole: Eah. Luck ain't got nuthin' to do with it deputy. Not if you know Hayes Cooper. (Cooper nearing the Marshal and deputy with the Raines bunch captive) Looks like you pulled it off Cooper.

Cooper: Yep

Marshal Dole: You boys oughta be lucky he brought you standin' up. Instead of bein' dragged in.

Hoskins: Here's your money, Cooper.

Cooper: Thanks Marshal… (looks at another wanted poster) I heard the Tarpin brothers are somewhere's in these parts.

Marshal Dole: Yeah, I heard that...Killed a couple a bounty hunters, more than a few settlers.

Hoskins: Goin' after the Tarpin brothers, now Cooper?

Cooper: That's my thought.

Marshal Dole: Now you better watch your back Coop. Tarpin brothers make Raines and his boys look like a bunch of choir girls.

Cooper: That's why there's a 5,000-dollar reward for 'em Marshal.

Marshal Dole: I reckon. (Cooper leaves for the trail of the Tarpins)

A song played in the background can be heard.

Song: The Tarpin gang was runnin' with a bounty on their heads. Five thousand dollars…

CD: (voice over) Cooper headed southwest on the Paradise Trail. The new route just opened to the settlers heading west.

Song: They found a place to get some sorta grub they have…

CD: (voice over)Cooper figured the Tarpin brothers might be lookin' for easy prey along this fresh cut trail. Later on he'd learn that his guess was right on the money…A day's ride a head of Hayes Cooper, a small convoy of wagons was on it's last leg of a long journey from Pennsylvania to Utah…Aboard these five wagons were a group of Mormon settlers. Heading west to join their follow members, who were building a new settlement in Paradise Valley. Their leader was John Mason.

(The Wagon Train)

John Mason (curiously the spitting image of Trent Malloy): (on horseback) Mr. Brazos!

CD: (voice over) On his first great mission to the service of the Lord.

Mason: How much further to Sampson's Trading Post, would you say?

Sam Brazos (who looks just like Carlos Sandoval): (on horseback) Um. Should be there by noon tomorrow.

Mason: When do you think we'll be stopping for the night? Everyone is quite tired.

Brazos: This place is safe as any, suppose we could stop here, an get an early start in the mornin'.

Mason: That'd be appreciated. (going back to the fist wagon in the train) We're stopping for the night Molly.

Molly Mason: Oh, thank the Lord.

Mason: We'll set up camp just up ahead.

(At Camp)

(The women are preparing supper as the men fix camp. The children are with the school marm, tending to that day's lesson)

Kate Burns (Alex Cahill in a previous life): Alright, who can tell what four times four is? Lizzy.

Lizzy: Sixteen.

Kate: Very good. And who can tell me what four times five is? (Lizzy is the only one raising her hand) Tommy aren't you going to join us in class today?

Tommy Mason: Twenty. These are all easy Miss Burnes. I already know my sixes.

Kate: Oh, you do? Ok, then perhaps you'd like to tell us what six times nineteen is? (Tommy looks baffled) Well?

Woman: Supper's ready!

Tommy: Supper's ready, school's out.

Kate: Not just yet. (Tommy looks disappointed) Lizzy.

Lizzy: One hundred and fourteen.

Tommy: I'as gonna say that.

Kate: Well of course you were. All right, supper is ready. Everyone. (class is dismissed and everyone gathers round for prayers by Brother Mason)

Mason: (everyone but Tommy Mason removes their hat) Hrrmmmm. (removes Tommy's hat) Dear Lord, we thank thee for watching over our journey. And another day free of misfortune. We ask for thine continued guidance and blessing, as we seek to join our brothers and sisters in Paradise Valley. Please help us keep our faith strong, our minds pure and our bodies safe. That they may continue to do thy work. We thank thee for the food we are about to partake. And all of the bounties so mercifully bestowed. Amen.

Everyone: Amen.

Tommy: Let's eat.

Molly: (scolding) Tommy Mason.

(Cooper Following the Wagon Train)

Song: You better ride, Hayes Cooper ride.

CD: (voice over)Behind the train and deep in the mountains, Hayes Cooper 'd been following the trail of iron shod horses. More than a dozen of 'em. The rain the night before had wiped out all traces and Cooper was left with just his intuition. He decided to head for Sampson's Trading Post.

Song: You better ride. Hayes Cooper ride. You better ride. Hayes Cooper ride.

(at a town)

Tarpin boy: Well now, ain't this a pretty sight?

Danny Tarpin: What's so pretty about a bunch of damn sod growers?

Tarpin boy: Well I guess that depends on which ones you lookin' at. (The two look at Molly and Kate with the wagon train) They good lookin' ain't they?

(Inside Sampson's Trading Post)

Jason Adams (poor Trivette, only gets to play the ex-slave): Can I have three of these onions, a few, some of your potatoes?

Sampson: (Irish accent) Where might your travels be takin' you?

Adams: Oh sir I plan ta sail one of those clipper ships around the world.

Tarpin boy: (pushes out from the counter) Get outta the way boy! Alright, now, start with the whiskey. We need three cases.

Adams: Sir. (Tarpin boys pushes stuff to the ground) My name is Adams.

Tarpin boy: Oh well pardon me Mr. Adams. You mighty damn uppy now ain't you? Don't ya?

Adams: I just don't take to being called boy anymore.

Danny: (gets into Adams' face) We'll call you any damn thing we want to boy.

Tarpin boy: Whatta you lookin' at? Where's the damn whiskey? (Sampson pulls out the case of whiskey)

(Outside the Trading Post)

(The wagon train is now relaxing and unhitching outside the post. Molly and Kate are standing looking at the store.)

Molly: It's been over a month since I've seen the inside of a store.

Kate: Sam Brazos says they have just about everything in there.

Molly: (sighs) Imagine that, way out here.

Mason: (comes up behind his wife Molly and Kate) Go ahead before you bust in two. We'll unhitch the team and be in shortly. (the women laugh and walk to the post) Son. Come on and lend a hand. Get the other side.

Tarpin boy: (in front of the store watching the women) Danny look at what we got comin'. A neat pair a quails.

Molly: (the women enter and go to the counter) Excuse me sir. Ah, I hope you have baking powder. (the two Tarpins get closer to the women)

Sampson: Of course. How much would you be needin'?

Tarpin boy: Hey pretty lady. (groping Molly) I bet you're juicier than a fresh peach.

Danny: (grabbing at Kate) Don't I know you?

Molly: (Molly and Kate struggle against the men) Oh, oh! Let me go!

Danny: Bet I can make you squeal. (Kate elbows him and tries to help Molly)

Molly: Oh, no! No! Please let me alone! Oh, oh! Leave me alone!

Tarpin boy: I like a woman…

Kate: The lady said, leave! Her! Alone!

Tarpin boy: (stepping back with whiskey in hand) Well, well. Look at this here Danny. Looks like we got ourselves a couple a spit fires here.

Danny: Nuthin' more attractive than a woman that wants to fight.

Sampson: See now, these are good women. This isn't right.

Tarpin boy: Shut up!

Adams: (coming toward the Tarpins) Those women said leave 'em alone.

Tarpin boy: You hear that?

Danny: Sounds like our boy here wants tell us what to do again.

Adams: So leave 'em alone.

Tarpin boy: I saw we whip the tar outta him first then hang 'im.

Danny: Ymmp.

Tarpin boy: Then we'll come back here and finish our business. (the two Tarpins and Mr. Adams fight. The two women manage to squeeze through and run out to call for help)

Danny: Get him up!

Adams: Umph, Help!

Molly: (running outside) AHHHHH! He tried to help us! Hurry, they're gonna kill him! (Sam Brazos and John Mason come to the shop as Mr. Adams continues defending himself)

Adams: (leans against a post and jumps as Sam Brazos, John Mason and the women come running back in) Ahhhh!! (raising his fists to fight)

Brazos: Easy there.

Kate: No, no, no! No! He's the one that helped us.

Brazos: All right fella? (Adams nods)

Adams: Yeah, I'm all right.

Kate: Thank you so, much. That was very brave of you.

Molly: Oh, he came to our defense when those bullies tried to have their ways with us. (John Mason goes to stand near Mr. Adams)

Mason: I'm forever in your debt sir. I'm Brother John Mason and this is our wagon master, Sam Brazos.

Adams: (shakes their hands, and sighs) My name is Jason Adams.

Brazos: You travelin' east or west?

Adams: San Francisco.

Brazos: This country can be a little rough on a fellow travelin' alone. Especially one who's made fresh enemies.

Mason: Mr. Brazos is right. You're more than welcomed to travel with us. At least as far as Paradise Valley.

Adams: That's real nice of you though.

Molly: Please… Join us. It'd be an honor.

Adams: (looking at the scene before him) Maybe that's a good idea. (clears his throat) I'll meet you outside.

Mason: This'll pay for all the damages. (pulling out a large roll of bills) And we'll be needing some supplies.

Sampson: Supplies I'll sell you. The damages weren't of your makin'. I'm only sorry I couldn't do more to protect the women. You keep your money sir. (one of the Tarpin boys sees Mason's roll of bills)

Mason: Thank you.

(Tarpin camp)

(The Tarpin boys return without the supplies they had gone to Sampson's to get.)

J.J. Tarpin: Wellllll, little brother. What happened to you? And where's the supplies?

Tarpin boy: Wagon train pulled in when we was getting' supplies.

Danny: Someone tried tired ta jump us.

Snake Eyes Tarpin: Is that a fact?

Danny: Yeah, but they's Mormons J.J. Look's as they carrin' a lot money.

Tarpin boy: And some good looking women. Oh!

Snake Eyes: Maybe, we oughtta take their money. Their women too. (the gang all laughs at this comment) Mount up boys.

(At the Wagon Train Camp)

(Kate comes over to Mr. Adams night camp set up as he's washing his hands)

Kate: I just want to thank you again for what you did today.

Adams: (turning to face Kate) Ma'am…Where I come from, men don't treat women like that.

Kate: And where is that, that you're from?

Adams: Beaufort, South Carolina. I was a slave back there.

Kate: Sorry

Adams: Oh…I 'as one, one of the lucky ones. My former master, he was a kind man. Doctor Thaddeus P. Simpson.

Kate: A doctor?

Adams: Yeah. Yep, um, taught me everythin' I know.

Kate: He taught you doctorin'?

Adams: Yes ma'am.

Kate: Would you come with me? There's someone I'd like you to see. (Mr. Adams puts his towel down and looks to where Kate is going as he grabs his medical bag)

Kate: Mr., Mrs. Grishim. Mr. Adams here knows some doctorin'. I think you should let him look at Lizzy. (Mrs. Grishim looks at her husband and he stares at Adams, since Adams is black and slavery prejudice ever fresh. Adams looks back at Mr. Grishim)

Mrs. Grishim: (Mr. Grishim nods in approval) Ok Kate. She's right in here. (moving to the back of the Grishim wagon)

Adams: (setting open his bag) Lizzy? (she nods her head) Hi, I'm Jason. Here, lemme (removing the cloth from her hand) take. Oh, Oh my god. That's still quite an infection there.

Lizzy: (in pain) It hurts.

Adams: I gonna fix you up good as new. (reaching around) uhh. Give me that water over there please. (Kate gets Mr. Adams the water) All right, you gotta have to keep this as clean as possible. (wrapping up Lizzy's hand) You'll be good as new in no time. (talking to Lizzy's parents) I gave her extract of willow bark for her fever. She'll be alright in one maybe two days. (taking out something for Lizzy) And this, piece of molasses candy is for you.

Mrs. Grishim: Thank you. (turning to Kate) Kate, will you join us for dinner tonight?

Kate: I would love to.

Mr. Grishim: Mr. Adams. (Mr. Adams turns to face Mr. Grishim) We'd be honest if you'd join us as well.

CD voice over: That night, Brother John Mason and his followers camped under the stars. And most of their number, blissfully unaware that they were in mortal danger.

(At Sampson's Trading Post)

(Cooper is at the Trading Post talking to the owner about whether or not the Tarpin gang had been through those parts recently)

Sampson: Aye, that's him. It was him and another fellow. I remember, cause, ah, they came in to buy supplies. About the same time as that wagon train. Startin' ta get a little, rough, with a couple o da women. Eh. When this negro fella stepped in ta stop it. (impressed) Boy, that negro fella beat the day light outta them. The, man you're lookin' for, and his friend took off. Didn't even stop to take the supplies they come here for.

Cooper: This wagon train. Is it on the Paradise Trail?

Sampson: Aye, that it is. A group of Mormons too. Nice folk. The leader even tried a pay for the damages to tha place. Should've seen the roll of bills he had. Coulda choked a heart.

Cooper: Did Tarpin see the bills?

Sampson: Believe he did, aye.

Cooper: (folds up wanted poster) Great. (walks out)

(The Wagon Train)

(The wagon train is continuing their trek to Paradise Valley. Traveling along a riverbank, the train encounters trouble)

Brazos: I'm gonna ride up ahead and take a look see. (moving ahead of the train. Brazos suddenly turns back at a fast clip) Heya! Heya! Let's round up! (orders the train to create a circle for protection)

Mason: Sam! What is it?!

Brazos: Outlaws! (A Mormon follower is shot)

Mason: Take cover! Take cover!

(Molly and her son hide behind their seats in the wagon. The other women and children gather and hide behind the wagons. A few of the men on both sides are shot. Mr. Adams runs to the sides of the injured Mormon men to tend their wounds. Hayes Cooper gets to the scene just in time. As one of the Tarpin boys takes aim at John Mason, Cooper (up on a hill) shoots Danny Tarpin. After the Tarpin boys notice Cooper the odds change and they flee.)

JJ Tarpin: Ok let's do it…They got us surrounded.

Tarpin boy: Who is that guy?

(The Tarpin gang turns tail and retreats, leaving Danny behind. On the ground, Danny tries to reach for his gun, but is stopped by Sam Brazos)

Brazos: (standing on Danny's hand) Do it and die. (Cooper comes down and helps Mr. Brazos with Danny) Thanks stranger.

Cooper: Name's Cooper. Hayes Cooper.

Brazos: Sam Brazos.

Cooper: Hello Tarpin

Brazos: You know him?

Cooper: Yeah, I know him. Come on. (The Mormons gather around a grave they made for their dead member. The women crying)

Mason: Elder James was so looking forward to reaching Paradise Valley. Take him to your bosom Lord. Rock him to eternal sleep. For if he cannot join us in the valley, let him live with you in paradise. Amen.

Mormons: Amen

Danny: (being held by Cooper and Sam Brazos) ouh! Hurts! OW! It hurts! (throws him to the ground next to a wagon) Y'all got a doctor around here? I'm shot. I need a doctor!

Adams: (steps up) I'm a doctor.

Danny: (eyeing Adams) You ain't gonna touch me boy. (Adams turns to leave) A'ight. If you a doctor. (Adams kneels to tend to Danny's gunshot wound on the left shoulder)

Brazos: Brother Mason. (John Mason turns to Cooper and Sam Brazos) He's the one that turned those outlaws out; Cooper's his name.

Mason: John Mason, Mr. Cooper. And we're grateful that you came by when you did.

Cooper: I didn't just happen by. (pulls out wanted poster) I've been tracking him and his two brothers.

Mason: Are you a lawman?

Cooper: Bounty hunter.

Danny: (in pain) Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! I thought you said yous a doctor boy.

Adams: That's what I said.

Danny: Ain't you got nuthin' for pain? I need sometin' to knock me out. (Mr. Adams knocks out Danny with a good ol' punch)

Brazos: (John Mason, Cooper and Sam Brazos turn towards Danny) Well, he asked for it.

Mason: Do you think those outlaws will come back?

Cooper: You can count on it. They know you've got a lot of money.

Mason: The Trading Post. They saw me pay for the supplies.

Brazos: Those outlaws out there John. Cold sure use someone like Mr. Cooper around.

Mason: You're right Sam. Mr. Cooper, would you consider joining up with us? (Cooper thinks it over) We can pay you.

Cooper: No, that won't be necessary.

Mason: But you'll join up with us?

Cooper: Where you headed?

Mason: We're joining up with our Mormon settlement just beyond Restoration Pass.

Cooper: I'll stay with you til then.

Mason: Appreciate it Mr. Cooper....Now if you'll excuse me I have some burials to attend to.

(Brother Mason and his followers perform burials for their lost people and the dead of the outlaws. After the wagon train is gone, and the Tarpin gang deems it safe for them to return to the riverbed, they return looking for Danny)

Tarpin boy: You think Danny's one of them buried here?

Snake Eyes: Ain't but one way to find out.

J.J: You want us to dig 'em up?

Snake Eyes: Have you got a problem with that?

J.J.: No

Snake Eyes: Get to diggin'.

(Following the Wagon Train)

(The wagon train is back moving along to meet the other settlers. Danny Tarpin is tied to the lead wagon, as they cross a river. Danny is singing as they cross the river, while it's not deep it is bumpy and causes some delays)

Danny: I know these sinner soldiers, who fight for what is right. I hate those yankees; they freed the slaves…lawyers…

Molly: Tommy, sit down. Now.

Brazos: (leading the train on horseback) You think the Tarpins will be back?

Cooper: Yeah. They'll be back.

Mason: Ok, everyone! Hang on now, hang on! And keep movin'!

Molly: (Tommy is turned to look at Danny bound behind the wagon) Tommy, sit down. Now

Danny: Water down there isn't as cold as this. This is good. I ain't had a bath in three weeks.

Molly: Thomas, quit lookin' at that outlaw. (from the rocking of the wagon, Tommy falls into the water face first and unconscious) OH! Tommy!

(Cooper turns around and sees what has happened to Tommy. Quickly he dismounts his horse and picks up a floating Tommy. Jason Adams also dismounts and with the help of Cooper turn Tommy on his stomach. Adams performs a maneuver that releases the water from his lungs. John Mason also dismounts and joins his wife waiting to see if their son will live)

Molly: (in the background) I don't know! John, oh John!

Cooper: He's not breathing.

Mason: Tommy!

Adams: Help me get him turned around. (Adams begins pounding on Tommy's back to massage out the water from the lungs) That a boy (Tommy begins to cough up the water) Tommy, he's ok now. (flipping Tommy over)

Molly: (she and John holding Tommy tight) Oh, Tommy! Oh this…Oh God.

Cooper: Never saw that before.

Adams: New procedure. My old master taught it to me.

Tommy: Mommy, mommy, mommy.

Molly: I know I know.

(Wagon Train Camp)

(The children are playing. And the women a preparing the meal. Molly and Kate have their backs to Danny, but Danny is harassing the women preparing meal)

Danny: What about Denver Miss Peach? You ever been to Denver? Is that where I know you from? (laughs) Believe I've struck a nerve. Come on Miss Peach. What you afraid of?

Brazos: (drinking) Tarpin, shut up before I gag you with your own boot. (tosses drink on Danny)

Molly: Are you alright Kate?

Kate: I'm fine.

Molly: He really seems convinced he's seen you somewhere.

Kate: I've never laid eye on him before.

(The Tarpin gang comes to get their brother. Knowing the group is Mormon; the Tarpin gang is carrying a white flag. While Mason is willing to let them go in peace, Cooper and Sam Brazos know how this gang works and wants to take them down)

Snakes Eyes: Ride 'em, Jonas.

A woman: The outlaws!

A man: That's them!

Snake Eyes: (Cooper, Brazos, and Mason come to the outlaws who are bringing a white flag) We wanna know if you've got our brother.

Danny: (tied against a wagon) I'm over here! Buster, Snake eye…Took y'all long enough to get here.

Buster Tarpin: You let our brother go and we'll leave you alone.

Cooper: You're a liar Tarpin.

Buster: Nobody calls Buster Tarpin a liar.

Cooper: I just did.

Buster: Who might you be?

Cooper: Name's Hayes Cooper.

Buster: Famous bounty hunter? Who's in charge here?

Mason: I am.

Buster: You gonna let our brother go?

Cooper: (stepping forward) What makes you think you're gonna leave. (the other men gather and step forward to the two Tarpin brothers)

Mason: Mr. Cooper they came in here, under a white flag.

Brazos: The tables were turned John, it wouldn't matter to them.

Mason: It matters to me. They came in peace; they'll leave in peace.

Cooper: Let 'em leave, they'll be coming back.

Brazos: It won't be in peace.

Mason: That's the way it's going to have to be. I'm a man of honor. (another of the Tarpins goes to untie Danny and ambush the wagon train men)

Danny: Shoot that bounty hunter first. Then shoot that dark yankee.

Adams: (as the Tarpin boy goes to shoot Cooper) Cooper! (Cooper turns and shoots the ambushing Tarpin boy dead. Bust and Snake Eyes quickly flee)

Danny: Hey! Hey!

Mason: (as Cooper raises his gun to shoot the two Tarpins, John Mason pulls his gun down) Mr. Cooper, no.

Danny: Don't leave me! Hey!

(A Little Later)

Kate: (teaching) Ok. Six times six…Anybody? (Lizzy raises her hand) Lizzy.

Lizzy: Miss Burnes.

Kate: Yes

Lizzy: Are those bad men gonna come back?

Kate: I don't know Lizzy. But if they do, Mr. Cooper and the other men will take care of them. (takes a look at her class) I think we've had enough math for today. Instead, I think we need a little song.

Kate (singing.  Badly): Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on.

Danny: Wait a minute! I know that voice. Kate Sullivan. Hey, Kate that don't sound like nuthin' you use to sang over at the Red Lion. (laughing) Won't you sing one of them for us? (speaking to all around) Cause back in Wichita we used to call her Sully. (speaking to Kate) Ain't that right Sully?

Molly: (Kate looking around) Kate is this true? (Kate turns and runs) What's he saying? Kate!

Danny: Yeah, she's a little more redder. She's about the hottest little thing to hit the dance floor of the Red Lion, let me tell you. She never could sang much, but I'll tell you she could dance. Y'all should've seen her dance. She could stop a clock, tick tock.

Brazos: (kicks Danny Tarpins) Shut Up!

Danny: I know I know'd who she was.

(In the woods)

(Cooper rides off to find Kate crying in the woods)

Cooper: (dismounts) So you're a dancehall girl?

Kate: (crying and agitated) Yes, Mr. Cooper I was a dancehall girl.

Cooper: Can you dance as well as you sing?

Kate: Is that suppose to be funny?

Cooper: No ma'am. But coming out here in the middle of nowhere. Not knowing where you're going. Well that's kind of funny.

Kate: What am I supposed to do?

Cooper: Go back and tell 'em who you are.

Kate: (scoffs) Oh, Kate Sullivan the dancehall girl?

Cooper: No, not who you were. Who you are, now. Kate Burns, the school marm. (Kate looks skeptically at Cooper, but returns to the wagon train camp site)

(At Wagon Train camp)

Kate: (talking to the wagon train) What Danny Tarpin said, is true. I was a dancehall girl. And I knew I wanted to do something more with my life. And then I found the Lord. I'll understand if you don't want me here.

Molly: (after a moment) Oh, Kate. It's not who you were that's important, it's who you are now. We're not going to stop loving that woman we met some months ago in St Louis. A woman that's become such an important part of our family.

All: (panning around the group) Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on. (showing Danny trying to sing through his gag) Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

(The Wagon Train Traveling)

(Back on their trek to Paradise Valley. The train is passing just below a hill, in a small valley area)

CD voice over: They were just a day's ride to go, before reaching Paradise Valley. The settlers were starting to believe that their dream might finally come true. But J.J and Buster Tarpin wanted their brother back. Along with the settlers money…And their women. And seeing how the direct route hadn't worked. They decided to set a trap. (the Tarpin gang is a top the hill and has dynamite set up to blow some rocks loose and trap the settlers)

Brazos: Cooper, it's a trap. (the Tarpin gang comes out and shows themselves)

Snake Eyes: You've got one minute to let our brother go or else we gonna blow y'all to hell.

Mason: We let your brother go, will you let us pass?

Snake eyes: You got my word on it. (looking ever so honest)

Cooper: Don't trust him John.

Mason: (seeing that they are surrounded) I don't think we have a choice…Release him. (the men release Danny)

Cooper: Kate, Kate. Get the kids on this side of the wagons.

Brazos: Come on! Everybody off! Off! Now!

Cooper: Off the wagon! Let's go! (removing the children)

Snake eyes: Let 'em have it boys! (open firing)

(Gun war goes on between the Mormon settlers and the Tarpin gang. Several men on both sides are hit. One of whom is Lizzy's father)

Lizzy: Papa!!!!

Mrs. Grishim: No, Lizzy!

(Lizzy rushes to her father's side and Sam Brazos grabs the child to protect her from gunfire)

Lizzy: Papa! Papa! Papa!

(Three girls suddenly become the target of one of Tarpin's men. And Sam Brazos steps in to take the shot to protect the girls, when he is mortally wounded)

Mason: Watch out girls!

(Jason Adams runs to help Sam, but it is too late for him and Sam knows it. Sam nods then dies as Adams confirms it, then tends to Lizzy's father)

Cooper: (reloading) How is he?

Adams: He's dead! (Mason looks remorseful)

(Cooper gets on the lead wagon to unhitch the team.)

Mason: Cooper what are you gonna do?

Cooper: Heya!

(He charges the horses towards the Tarpin gang and holds on to the hitch so that the Tarpin gang cannot get a clear shot at him. As Cooper is right in front of the Tarpin gang, he takes out the remaining members)

(After the Gun Fight)

Cooper: You'll be fine from her on out.

Mason: Thank you Mr. Cooper.

Cooper: Good luck.

(At Paradise Valley)

(Looking down from a hill the settlers look down upon Paradise Valley. Everyone stands and marvels at the beautiful scenery of the valley and the lake to the river. All standing with their families)

Mason: We're here Molly.

Molly: Yes, our new home. (pan in on everyone)

(Flashbacks of the scenes with Sam Brazos, Cooper, John Mason and the settlers are shown as the Hayes Cooper theme is sung in the background)

Song: The Mormons headed west, to Paradise, beyond the trail. Hayes Cooper went to Texas, and the Tarpins. Went to hell. You better ride, Hayes cooper ride. The law is on your side. You better ride, Hayes Cooper, ride...

(Back in the Present at CD's)

(Alex, CD, and Trivette still sitting at the bar)

Alex: That is so beautiful.

(Walker comes up behind Alex and CD, putting his hands on their shoulders and scaring the life out of them)

Walker: Hey.

Alex: Uh!

CD: Well!

Walker: Gees! (Everyone laughs)
